Audition Dates

  • July 19th, Wednesday: The envelope with your deposit check should be postmarked on or on before date.
  • July 21, 2023, Friday, 5:00pm: Registration closes. Deposit checks should be received in the mail by this date and time.
  • July 28, 2023, Friday, 5:00: Audition times will be announced and emailed to applicants
  • Saturday, August 5, 2023: Strings and possibly Brass, ASU, Katzin Hall
    – 8:15am: Check-in begins in Cowley lobby.
    – 9:00am: First audition block  begins.
    – Deposit checks are returned to the applicants.
    – The excerpts that will be asked will be shown to the applicant.
    – As classrooms become available, applicants will be shown to their classroom to warm up.
    – We aim to for no more than one person warming up in a classroom at one time.
    – A runner will be sent to the practice classrooms to notify the applicants when it is time to move to the waiting area for their audition block.
    – Noon-1:00pm Judges’ lunch.
    – 5:00pm Auditions end.
  • Sunday, August 6, 2023: Possibly Brass, No Strings, ASU, Katzin Hall
    – 2:15PM: Check-in begins in Cowley Lobby
    – Auditions: 1:00-5:00pm

Notes:

  • REGISTER through the button above only.
  • Please arrive 45 minutes before your audition.
  • Sign-in will be in Cowley Lobby at Arizona State University. You can pick up your deposit check at that time
  • There will be four classrooms available for warming up.
  • A runner will let you know when it is time to move to the hall.
  • The auditions are held in Katzin Hall.
  • Auditions are screened.
  • We aim to create a completely predictable, transparent process for your audition.  If you have a need or something doesn’t make sense, please ask as far in advance as possible.
  • Participation and results are fully confidential except for those who win positions.
  • Whenever possible, announcements are made at the end of each block on the day of the auditions.
  • Contracts will be sent to audition winners via email.

2023-2024 Season Dates

Every audition winner will be offered at least two cycles per season. The 5-year plan includes expanding this number to six cycles per season per orchestra member.

If you register for this audition, we encourage you to reserve the concert cycles below which are relevant to the position you are seeking. Pending final discussions with venues, most cycles will rehearse Thursday evenings, twice on Fridays, once on Saturdays, and a sound check on Sunday afternoon concert days.

At the writing of this announcement, additional chamber music concert cycles may be offered to the audition winners.
